Description
Railroad Short Name: ATSF, SF
Delivered in 1946, Santa Fe’s class 16 F3 A-B-B-A sets became the signature diesel of the postwar passenger fleet. Resplendent in the gleaming silver, red and yellow “Warbonnet” scheme, the distinctive cab units captured the spirit of tomorrow with the romance of the old west. Leading such flagship trains as the “Super Chief”, “Chief” and more, the fleet consisted of three orders, with the last arriving in 1949. For nearly 30 years, they would soldier on in passenger service until old age caught up and retirements began. Some ended their careers in freight service, but a few were rebuilt as CF7 road switchers.
Now with Walthers exclusive metal finish that simulates the look of real stainless steel, you can accurately model the most famous paint scheme in railroad history! With Santa Fe specific details, and all the features that make PROTO 2000 locos the first choice for your passenger fleet, they’re a brilliant addition to any roster or collection.
