Description

This load is a model of an SF6 gas circuit breaker for an electrical power substation used in power transmission service.  Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6) is used as a dielectric medium for arc extinction by interrupting electric currents with a high-pressure blast of gas when tripped by a protective relay.  Sulphur Hexafluoride is used in this blast to cool and quench an electric arc between two separated contacts during arcing between the contacts, and thus opens the circuit to stop the flow of electrons.  The triple interrupting chambers of this 345KV breaker are required for this amount of load at 115KV per chamber.  A pipe and fitting at the top of the chambers is for gas supply to the breaker, and the lower connecting pipe and drain valve allow for purge and cleanout of the chambers.

This model load comes complete with the triple chambers mounted on a base frame.  The model comes complete with the gas and drain pipes, as well as the drain valve.  The accompanying instrument cabinet comes mounted on the frame.  The model pieces come fully painted and ready to use. The six insulators will need to be added to the breaker base, easily inserting the insulator base into a receptacle hole.  Mounting the circuit breaker to a GSC flatcar is best accomplished using angle stock to form a retaining barrier around the base of the breaker frame.  Use small diameter wire to tie down the frame.
