60' Trenton Works 6637 Box Car

Prototype Information

Trenton Works built the 6637 cubic foot boxcar in 1995 for BC Rail. These Nova Scotia-built cars modernized the railroad’s aging forest products fleet. This specific 1995 production run featured a unique tapered side sill to support heavy loads. These cars wore the classic BC Rail green paint and carried road numbers in the 60100–60249 series.

The design utilized a combo-door setup with a 16-foot opening. This wide gap allowed crews to load oversized lumber and plywood with ease. Though built on the East Coast, these cars spent their lives hauling timber through the Pacific Northwest. After the 2004 takeover, Canadian National absorbed many of these veterans into its own fleet.
