Prototype Information

The Gunderson 5188cf is a large three-bay hopper built to Plate C clearance. It measures 58 feet over the coupler centers and has an all-steel body. The car offers a capacity of 5,188 cubic feet. Trough-style loading hatches allow fast, efficient loading. Hatch covers may be metal or non-metal, depending on customer preference.

Each bay includes a 30-inch by 30-inch outlet opening. The outlets can be equipped with different gate types to match the commodity being handled. Production began in 2007. Since then, the design has seen several updates, including changes to side panel layouts, the addition of two or four horizontal side ribs, and revised pulling loop placement and styles.
