PS Trinity Backpacker Well Car

Prototype Information

The Trinity “Backpacker” well car was first built in 1986 by Pullman-Standard. It is a five-unit articulated car with 40′ wells. Each well can hold a 40′, 45′, or 48′ container. The design also allows staggered loading of 53′ containers. Its low-profile deck helped with taller loads. The car earned the nickname “Backpacker” for its compact, efficient design. Production continued into the late 1980s. Many still run today on North American railroads.
