50' Gunderson 6089 High Cube Box Car

Prototype Information

Gunderson, Inc. (later Gunderson–Greenbrier) built the 6089 high-cube boxcar in the 1960s and 1970s to efficiently carry light, bulky freight. At 50 feet long with a high-cube profile, it maximized internal volume while fitting standard North American clearances.

Railroads loaded these rib-sided cars with auto parts, paper products, appliances, and other cubically dense goods. They featured double plug doors and cushioned underframes to protect cargo during transit.
