2970 2 Bay Covered Hopper

Prototype Information

ACF introduced the 2970 2-bay covered hopper in the late 1960s as part of its Center Flow line. Built for dense commodities like cement, sand, and soda ash, the 2970 used a center discharge system that made unloading fast and efficient. Its welded steel body and Center Flow design reduced weight and maintenance by supporting the load through the slope sheets instead of internal braces. Produced through the 1980s, the rugged 2970 became a staple of North American railroads and private shippers, earning a reputation for dependable, heavy-duty service.
