Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC)

Prototype Information

The Budd RDC was introduced in 1949. It was a self-propelled passenger railcar. Built with a stainless-steel body and diesel engines, it did not need a separate locomotive. Early models seated 70–90 passengers.

RDCs were ideal for light or regional service. They could run alone or in multiple units. Many stayed in service for decades. Some are still used today for excursions or commuter lines.
