AutoFlood III Rapid Discharge Hopper
Prototype Information
The Trinity AutoFlood III is a high-capacity aluminum coal hopper designed for rapid transport. Trinity Rail introduced this aerodynamic design in the early 2000s to maximize fuel efficiency. Each car uses an exterior-post aluminum body and a strong steel underframe to carry over 4,200 cubic feet of coal.
These hoppers utilize automated bottom doors for fast flood unloading while the train is in motion. Many units also feature rotary couplers for use at specialized tipping facilities.
