17,360 Gallon Tank Car

Prototype Information

ACF introduced the 17,360-gallon tank car in the 1960s for transporting chemicals, acids, and petroleum products. It featured an all-welded steel construction with insulation and safety features for hazardous materials. The car’s size balanced capacity and routing flexibility on various rail lines. Over the years, it saw use by major chemical and oil companies. Many of these cars remained in service for decades, often rebuilt or reassigned to different commodities.
