50' ACF Box Car

Prototype Information

The 50-foot ACF boxcar was introduced in 1974. ACF Industries built about 5,400 of them over six years. These cars were made for modern, high-capacity freight service.

They had a 50’6” interior length and held around 5,300 cubic feet. Most had Plate C dimensions, 10-foot sliding doors, and non-cushioned underframes. Early models had fishbelly sills; later ones had straight sills.

These boxcars ran across North America. Many were used by major railroads and shortlines. Some are still in service today. They were known for durability and flexibility.
