53' Evans Box Car

Prototype Information

The 53-foot Evans double plug door boxcar was built in the 1970s. It was made by Evans Products Company. The car was designed for large, palletized loads like paper and consumer goods.

Double plug doors gave wide openings for easy forklift access. The 53-foot length offered more space than standard 50-foot boxcars. This let shippers move more freight per trip.

Many cars had cushioned underframes to protect fragile cargo. They were used by both private companies and major railroads.

These boxcars were common in the 1970s and 1980s. They served well in industries like paper, lumber, and packaged goods.
