53' Thrall 3 Unit Articulated Well Car

Prototype Information

The Thrall 53′ three-unit articulated well car appeared in the late 1990s. It was built for growing domestic intermodal traffic. Each unit held one 53-foot container or two shorter ones. The three wells were permanently connected. This reduced weight and slack action. Ride quality improved. Thrall built the car before Trinity bought the company. The design helped railroads move more containers efficiently.
