89' F89-J Flat Car

Prototype Information

ACF built the F89J flat car in the 1960s to meet growing demand for heavy-duty and intermodal freight. This 89-foot, 100-ton car handled trailers, machinery, and military equipment. ACF equipped many with hitches, bulkheads, or custom fittings depending on the intended service. Some went to the Department of Defense, while others hauled oversized industrial loads. Newer equipment took over intermodal duties, but modified F89Js still run today in specialized and maintenance service.
