ACF 5800 Plastics Covered Hopper

Prototype Information

ACF introduced the 5800 plastics covered hopper in the early 1970s. They built nearly 15,000 cars, mainly for private chemical, oil, and plastics companies. The hopper holds about 5,800 cubic feet and has four bays with multiple roof hatches and gravity outlets for fast loading and unloading. These cars became a standard for hauling plastic pellets and resins by rail. Many are still in active service today, moving plastic materials across North America.
