Pressureaide Covered Hopper

Prototype Information

The Pressureaide Centerflow hopper car was introduced by American Car and Foundry (ACF) in the early 1970s. It was developed to handle fine, dry bulk commodities like flour, starch, or cement that required pneumatic unloading. Unlike gravity-discharge hoppers, the Pressureaide design used sealed compartments and pressurized air to force product out through piping. The cars featured the familiar Centerflow tubular body, with smooth sides and integrated pneumatic equipment mounted beneath. They became a standard for shippers needing contamination-free, enclosed unloading systems. ACF produced several variations with different capacities and outlet configurations over the following decades.
