Trinity 3230 Covered Hopper

Prototype Information

Trinity Industries developed the 3230 pressure differential covered hopper to handle dense, powdered commodities that require pneumatic unloading, such as cement, flour, fly ash, and lime. With a capacity of 3,230 cubic feet, this car uses pressure differential technology to unload contents through an air-assisted system, ideal for facilities without gravity-unloading infrastructure. Trinity built the car with reinforced pressure vessels, internal piping, and sealed hatches to ensure safe and efficient handling of fine, flow-resistant materials. Shippers in the construction, food, and energy sectors adopted the design widely, and these cars remain in regular service today.
