50' Gunderson 6269 High Cube Box Car

Prototype Information

Gunderson introduced the 6269 high-cube boxcar in 1994. It was built for the paper industry. The extra height allowed large paper rolls to stand upright. The first 500 cars went to Burlington Northern, BAR, and Hartwell Southern. More cars followed in the late 1990s and 2000. Illinois Central, IBT, and Wisconsin Central got large orders. Some later cars were built by Trenton Works. Many still run today under new owners. The design proved strong and reliable.
