2929 Covered Hopper

Prototype Information

The PS-2CD 2929 covered hopper, built by Pullman-Standard in the early 1960s, was designed for hauling dense bulk commodities like cement, sand, and grain. With a 2,929-cubic-foot capacity and a center discharge system, it efficiently handled heavy loads.

Railroads used the 2929 extensively, but as demand grew for higher-capacity cars, larger models like the PS-2CD 4427 and 4750 took over. Despite being phased out for general use, some 2929 hoppers remained in service for specialized applications.
