Description

Railroad Short Name: CR

Conrail N7D “Blue Repaint 1981+ Era” w/ Interior Lights and Lit FRA Flasher gives 1981+ CR modelers an accurate caboose option.  These models match Conrail’s modifications to the roof and ends.  The roof has been simplified: the walkway has been removed, but the support brackets remain.  The antenna ground plane is also gone by this era, and the cabooses have replacement smoke jacks.  The ends were rebuilt to match the sister N7 ex PC/NYC class and include the installation of the FRA flashing end light.  (Yes, it’s ORANGE per CR practice!)  If you look at the one end, you will even notice the window is gone, replaced by a fuel fill pipe.  This corresponds to the removal of the coal stove and changeover to an oil bunker and CABAN oil heater.  The side marker lights are plated over.  Under the caboose, Conrail replaced the large generator with their standard DAYCO belt drive.  The battery box is also gone.  The trucks have been changed to 70-Ton Barber Roller Bearing Caboose Trucks.  The paint scheme features the shorter CR logo with CONRAIL and car number on the side, along with era accurate COTS and U-1 inspection dots.  If you look carefully in the upper right corner, you can spot the former EL car number, carefully recorded in white stencil paint.  The FRA end flasher application, along with these detail and lettering features, combine to accurately execute a 1981+ era Conrail caboose.  For lighting, these Tangent CR 1981+ era cabooses are equipped with “golden” interior lights, mimicking the incandescent bulbs of the real cabooses along with flashing (orange) end FRA lights.
