Description
Railroad Short Name: NATX
NATX “Anderson Clayton Foods” 1973+ gives modelers an example of one specific use for these non-insulated, purpose-built tank cars, and that is food service products. Painted in a distinctive dark green carbody color, these cars proudly wear the Anderson Clayton Foods era-specific company branding. These cars also feature the Roman-style stenciling in white, which certainly “pops” against the green-painted carbody. Also note that some of the rooftop appliances are painted white as an opposing color to the carbody green. Because these cars were repainted in 1973, they include ACI labels, appropriate COTS, and a “Leased from North American Car Corporation” logo. The “TEX” in place of the NEW date on the side of the car references the Texarkana TX shop where the updating and painting occurred. Check out the reporting mark, road numbers, and NACC-standard serial number applied to the super-detailed underframe. The underframe lettering also includes references to the steam coil system that the car is equipped with internally – and the external reference being the aforementioned lettering and the two pairs of inlet-outlet pipes protruding from the underframe in the center of the car. These pipes are a Tangent variation to replicate the prototype’s underbody appliances. These tank cars roll on Tangent 100-ton Barber S-2 trucks with 36’ wheels, separate truck brake beams and rotating Timken roller bearing caps.
