Prototype Information

The FMC 5077 boxcar was built in the mid-1970s. It had a 50-foot length and a 5077-cubic foot capacity. The car was designed for paper, canned goods, and other light freight. It featured wide doors and smooth sides. Most rode on 100-ton trucks. FMC made them from 1974 to 1979 in Portland, Oregon. Many railroads and leasing firms used them. FMC left the railcar business in the early 1980s. These boxcars stayed in service for decades.
