Unique among SD39s, several of Southern Pacific’s units were equipped with FARR style radiator grills. The SP SD39s in this release feature this distinct detail, as well as the block “SP” letters on the nose that were added sometime after delivery. Additionally, these engines feature the later style of ballast block that was installed on either side of the nose of the units
